Throw Me The Statue - Moonbeams

Throw Me The Statue
Moonbeams
(02.2008, Secretly Canadian)
Verdict: Pleasant, it's the new charming

It took me a while to obtain this album. I ignored acclaim and recommendations from friends until one day I heard it playing in the ol' Slowtrain and it seemed to be soundtracking this lovely weather quite perfectly. The album art is sooooo bad however that I couldn't bring myself to buy it, and eventually just downloaded it. Shame too, since I love having physical copies of my music, and it's even out on vinyl. I took it upon myself to censor the cover art for this post, but it still didn't make it any more appealing or friendly on the eyes. I am sorry for disappointing all our millions of readers. Next time I alter an album cover I will not disappoint. Anyways, on to the review. Seems like 2008 is overflowing with pleasant music. 2006 saw a giant wave of quirky charm. 2007 saw everything through quirky poptastic glasses and now 2008 is chillin' out, maxin', relaxin' all cool and shootin' some b-ball upside the school to put a smile on your face with it's quirky pleasantries and niceties. Such is Moonbeams, a quaint multi layered jangly indie pop album of diversity. Although the songs range from chord strummers to melodica and glockenspiel laden frolics to electronica, all are pleasant above all else and definitely comparable with sunshine and yellow flowers to lift your spirits. Personally I like this trend of happiness and hope it continues well on into the year. Happiness to all and to all a good night.

hmmm, interesting. you think the album art is awful and the record is pleasantly quaint. i believe if you are overtly christian or maybe just prudish you are supposed to leave disclaimers admitting such at the top of your reviews. air it out baby. and don't censor someone's record cover, that's tacky.

Um, I think the censorship was provided for me, the prudish Christian. Thanks for understanding :)

The album art would have been awful even without boobs. Whose rule is it that you have to "leave disclaimers." You know what I think tacky is -reading someone’s personal website and then telling them how to post. Also I think it's incredibly close minded of you to say offensive Christian stereotypes. Do you believe that only people who believe in Jesus don't like pointless nudity. Are you saying that having morals is tacky? What if I edited it as a joke, which I did by the way, is that offensive to you? If you don't like our sense of humor don't bother reading our site mr. anonymous, there are plenty of music blogs out there for you to harass.

scott's my friend. our bands played together. the album is brilliant, and so is the cover art, whose nudity isn't pointless, rather, it is poignant. if censoring it is a joke, i don't quite understand the punchline, i guess. if you feel the need to censor someone's art, perhaps you shouldn't post it at all. it's disrespectful. also, if this is a personal website and not a public one, you should make the blog available to only friends or whatever exclusive group you wish. blogger allows for privacy. as it stands, it's public domain. if you don't want editorials, don't make it public.

Hahahaha. We were just laughing our heads off about how pissed off people got by this censoring just the other day, so its great to have another person add yet another overly dramatic and stupid comment to the roster! Thanks Ben!

overly dramatic and stupid? you have no respect for art, and you are a douchebag. what you're doing with a music blog is a complete mystery. at least i have backbone enough to speak my mind, instead of hiding my opinions under the guise of a 'joke.'

the problem is, you're offended by the nudity and you don't know why, just that someone told you to be. religion sure has an enslaving power over the ignorant masses..

you can't even defend yourself, all you can say is that my comment was 'stupid.' your mum and dad must be so proud of their intelligent boy.

when will you poor christians learn that the body isn't something to be ashamed of? there is nothing remotely provocative or sexual about this image that you censored. you're a sad, confused little boy.

Hey Ben, you're are what makes blogging worth it! We love you. You know why this is a funny joke? Because people like you are ridiculous enough to keep commenting about it. We think that is funny. Maybe it isn't tactful to laugh at people because they get so up in arms, but we can't help it.

Ben, Ben, Ben.
First and foremost, I am a girl. Secondly, I have a degree in art, majoring in figure drawing. Do you know what that means? Studying naked people, alllll day for four years. Accusing someone of not respecting art, especially someone who slaves away writing music reviews to help hype YOUR friends band, is not a very smart or nice thing to do. If you are someone who doesn't like people getting offended easily, maybe you should try not getting offended so easily at people being offended. That seems to make more sense. Big deal, your friend's band's artwork was funny to us and we made fun of it. That's what getting reviewed is- people critiquing, praising, joking or otherwise talking about the album. You are the one that needs to chill, not us.

i think it would take you SEVERAL hours if not days or weeks to find another music blog that has censored the artwork of the album they are 'critiquing.' you didn't make one joke about it in the first post, only saying that the artwork was 'bad' and that's why you 'took it upon your self to censor the image.' then you went as far as to call it 'pointless nudity,' in a subsequent post. you are OFFENDED by the nudity, that's why you censored it. you already admitted it! and, reread your post. you didn't critique the album at all. i think it's ironic that you two say i'm 'ridiculous enough to keep commenting about it,' yet you respond to each post. grow a fucking backbone and stand by your principles, if you can call them that. PATHETIC.

Well, I guess you know me better than I know myself. You must be right Ben. I have no idea what my own motives were when writing my own post on my own blog or what offends me. I am so glad that you have helped me see the light and also have helped me not ever be able to listen to Throw Me The Statue again because it wasn't that good of an album to begin with, but now everytime I hear it I will just think about how the man that produced it is friends with one of the biggest ass holes I have ever come into contact with and I will vomit a little in my mouth each time I hear it.
